International Womens’ Day Portraits
Celebrating IWD 2019 with some #BalanceforBetter portraits of Make Space Studios female artists, from painters and theatre designers, to jewellers, ceramicists and dancers
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2019 this month, I spent the afternoon photographing all the brilliant female artists here at Make Space Studios with portraits in the IWD #Balanceforbetter pose, in front of a purple (for Suffrage, not UKIP!) backdrop.
The Balance for Better theme and pose (read about it here) aims to promote a gender-balanced world:
From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world.
In the spirit of the day, I donated £10 to Refuge for every willing poser, and was able donate £110 to a very worthy cause.
Pictured above are four of our excellent sitters: Theatre designer Charlie Cridlan, ceramicist Camilla Webb Carter, painter Laurence Caisse-Parsley and Dancer and choreographer Rachel Kay (and Bo the female dog).
I think I’ll make this an annual project, so here’s to a more gender-balanced 2019 and even more sitters next year.
