Cold Water Swimmers of Brockwell Lido
A project embracing my love of outdoor swimming, in particular at Brockwell Lido. I set out to capture environmental portraits of the swimmers who brave the pool year-round, enduring (& enjoying) temperatures as low as 2-3 degrees Celcius, and creating a characterful community of cold-water lovers that helps define this Brixton institution.
The ‘before’ shots mixed flash and ambient light for a poolside portrait, followed by naturally-lit ‘after’ shots in the water, to show the exhilarating, skin-reddening, heart-shocking, life-affirming delight of a cold water dip. It was 8 degrees in the pool the November day we shot, despite the sunshine.
The project was later featured in Outdoor Swimmer magazine.
