‘Classical Beats’ a Finalist at AOP Awards 2022

It’s the photography BAFTAs / Oscars: a series of 5 of my portraits from the ‘Classical Beats on Brixton Streets: the Brixton Chamber Orchestra’ project selected as a Finalist in the Documentary Category of the AOP Awards 2022.

Some really lovely news this week: a set of 5 of my portraits from the ‘Classical Beats on Brixton Streets: the Brixton Chamber Orchestra‘ project were selected as a Finalist in the Documentary Category of the AOP Awards 2022.

Now in their 37th year, the awards are a red-letter day on the UK photography calendar, equivalent to the BAFTAs or Oscars in their status as rewarding and celebrating the highest quality imagery being made anywhere in the world.

I’ve been an AOP member for 6 years now, and have gawped in admiration and envy at the Finalist lists each year, and pored over the beautiful catalogue that is produced.

So, to be on the Finalists list for the Documentary category, and to have the work I shot with Orchestra to celebrate them and their connection to the history of Brixton on the Classical Beats Project be recognised by a jury of experts really means a lot.

I’ll be going along to the awards evening on 20th April to enjoy being part of the event, and to see all the work hung on the walls of the gallery.

In the meantime, you can see my images selected below, check out the whole project and enjoy the full list of Finalists in all categories via the video.
